Built a Roadmap for a Company’s First Internal Communications Function
The Challenge
A growing live music promotion and production company with 776 employees across multiple locations had never had a formal internal communications strategy or dedicated resource. As the organization grew, communication gaps became more apparent, leading to information gaps and inconsistencies.
My Approach
I conducted a comprehensive communications audit, interviewing 31 employees across roles and levels and reviewing 40+ communications, channels, and practices. I looked beyond individual messages to understand how information flowed across the organization, where it broke down, and how communication practices were affecting employee trust and engagement.
I synthesized the findings into three core communication challenges and identified several broader organizational issues influencing communication. I then developed a phased strategic plan and roadmap with practical recommendations for building a sustainable internal communications function.
The Impact
I presented the findings and recommendations to the company’s owner and COO and delivered a detailed report and implementation roadmap. Leadership said the work demonstrated a deep understanding of their organization and provided much-needed guidance on how to move forward.
The engagement led to additional work helping the company build its first formal internal communications function and put the recommendations into action.
